BEHIND THE VEIL

About the show

Behind the Veil

Welcome to a world where perfection is manufactured, productivity is worshipped, individuality has become a dangerous defect, and every smile has been carefully rehearsed

In this spectacularly absurd world, breathtaking physical feats collide with dark satire, unveiling a society obsessed with precision demands, flawless execution, unwavering discipline and absolute conformity.

Every movement is synchronised, everybody is optimised, every mistake is unacceptable. Don’t look too closely though. If perfection is a performance, what happens when the invisible machinery starts to degrade? When society refuses to stay contained…

This is a world where circus becomes both celebration and rebellion. Gravity is defied not simply for entertainment, but as an act of resistance against conformity, impossible standards, flawed structures and an escape from one’s own hypocrisies.

Behind the Veil questions the hierarchies and structures within society through the world of a kooky circus ensemble, where trust can both empower and control, where every lift, catch and fall relies on invisible systems of care and dependence. It questions not only how extraordinary things are achieved, but who pays the price for making them appear effortless.

As the mechanisms of this perfectly engineered world begin to fail, performers reclaim something far more dangerous than perfection: choice and freedom.

A fusion of spectacle and social commentary, this production celebrates circus not only as a display of exceptional skill, but as a profoundly human act of collaboration, resilience and resistance.

Experience it from 15– 19 September 2024.
