Social Circus

Social Circus is the common term for using circus as a tool for social change.

Since opening its doors in 2001, NICA has been committed not only to providing professional circus training but to working at a grassroots level with communities. NICA does this by conducting Social Circus workshops and outreach programs, as well as delivering training for Social Circus instructors in conjunction with Cirque du Soleil’s social circus arm Cirque du Monde.

NICA has offered programs to indigenous organisations and marginalised groups, both nationally and internationally, utilising circus arts as a community cultural development tool.

NICA has used circus to work with:
· Youth at risk
· Marginalised groups
· Indigenous groups
· People with disabilities
· Juvenile offenders
· Survivors of assault

Social circus programs aim to build an environment of inclusivity, where individuals and communities can develop a strong sense of self through the sharing of skills and experiences.
